NBA Star KOBE BRYANT

Beyond the US$45 million (S$65 million) he earned last year - second only to Tiger Woods' US$110 million according to Forbes, Bryant is defined by his work ethic. And that was the one lesson he pressed on the youths in front of him yesterday- that the secret of his success was no secret at all, just very hard work. "I trained like a maniac when I first started - eight hours on the court every day. Even off-court I was always training, learning different techniques, studying videos, It was non-stop," he said.
"When I was six or seven, I came back from a summer league in Philadelphia. I didn't score a point all summer," said Bryant, whose father Joe "Jellybean" Bryant was a former Philadelphia 76ers player. "But my father said,'Son, we're gonna love you whether you score 60 or score 0".
"That gave me the confidence of not being afraid to fail. That's the best thing you can teach your kids - not having that fear. Without that fear, you'll go after anything because you know your family's going to be there no matter what."
